NUCLEAR REVIVAL?
PUBLIC RESISTANCE NEEDED!
The nuclear industry and its supporters in governments are hoping
for a nuclear revival in Europe, wrongly claiming the problems of
nuclear power are solved and nuclear energy even could play a role
in limiting climate change. While this is far from true, an increasing
number of European countries consider a nuclear comeback, and in
Finland the first new reactor in Western Europe since 15 years is
being built.

But nuclear power is the problem, and not the solution!
Nuclear power is the most dangerous form of energy. Almost two
decades have passed since the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and yet,
people are still suffering the long-term consequences of its health
and environmental impacts. A similar disaster can happen anytime
anyplace. The problems of long-term storage & treatment of radioactive
waste as well as the release of radioactive substances into air
and water during normal operation remain unsolved. And nuclear power
is economically insane. Not a single nuclear power plant was ever
built without direct or indirect subsidies, paid by taxpayers and
increasing the profits of the nuclear industry. MORE
ABOUT NUCLEAR POWER
We need you again: one million Europeans against nuclear power
European NGOs, lead by Atomstopp,
Friends of the
Earth Europe, Global 2000,
Sortir
du Nucléare, WISE,
Women for Peace -- and more than 200 supporting
NGOs -- have now joined forced to challenge the political leaders
of the EU and European countries, demanding that nuclear energy
should have no role to play in Europe's energy mix. In particular
we demand that no further taxpyers' money is wasted to subsidse
the most dangerous form of energy and that the outdated EURATOM
treaty, that obliges the European Union to support the development
of nuclear energy in Europe, is finally abolished. EXPLORE
WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE CAMPAIGN
We aim to collect one million signatures against nuclear power
in Europe. Signatures are collected online, but also during street
actions across Europe throughout the year, for example during the
"Weeks of Action" 15 April
to 7 May 2006 at the occasion of the 20th anniversary
of the Chernobyl disaster. WHAT
YOU CAN DO TO HELP!
